About ACCO
The American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa (ACCO) is a non-profit organization made up of over 100 members from the American and Okinawan business communities. Although many Americans began their businesses here in 1945, it wasn't until 1953 that the ACCO was founded, and a charter was granted by the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America.
The purpose of The American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa.
· To further the development of commerce and trade between the United States and Okinawa.
· To promote and undertake projects and other measures designed to benefit and protect the interests of members as well as American business interests in general.
· To represent and effectively express the opinions of the American business community in Okinawa concerning trade, commerce, finance, industry, and other related subjects.
· To collect, evaluate and disseminate statistical, educational and any other information concerning trade and commerce among members and other interested parties.
· To establish liaisons and cooperate with other organizations sharing mutual interests and to perform any other acts incidental or related to the attainment of the abovementioned goals.
In 1968 the American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa joined with other American Chambers of Commerce in the Far East to form the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) to exchange information on mutual problems and give us a unified voice in Washington.
The strength of the ACCO lies in its membership and committees which are designed to meet the growing needs and concerns of the American and Okinawan business communities. Maintaining close ties with the U.S. Consulate General in Okinawa and the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo helps to support our efforts. Close ties to the Okinawan and Japanese governments, plus established contacts in various U.S. Government agencies in Washington makes us a stronger organization. Working together is the key to the future. Join us.
